***Face side of plate decoratively depicts this wedding scene imagery: A pretty brunette-haired Empire (Regency) 1820s-era American bride on her wedding day. She is exquisitely and authentically attired in the period costume fashion style of her time.
Attention to historically accurate detail on this plate is absolutely impeccable!
Kindly refer to “Informational Brochure Insert” excerpt immediately following for a further, more elaborately detailed description.
***Informational Brochure Insert Reads: “A presentation of Hamilton and Curator Collection. Rebecca - Eighth issue in the Portraits of American Brides Plate Collection by Rob Sauber - Curator Collection.
The 1820s Bride. Dancing for joy on their wedding day, Rob Sauber’s 1820s-era bride, ‘Rebecca’, and her new husband seem to walk on air. Their formal attire indicates that their wedding was most probably a large and glorious event, yet for this moment the bridal pair is alone to enjoy a private dance before they rejoin their guests.
The most striking aspect of this bride’s costume is the long and finely rendered lace mantilla that serves as her wedding headdress. It flows almost to the floor, accenting her snow-white wedding dress with its layered hemline, flattering square-cut neckline and off-the-shoulder sleeves.
The bride wears elbow-length white gloves, and carries a large, lacy handkerchief as an accessory to her attire. Her groom sports a formal morning costume in grey, complete with striped pants and shiny buckles on his shoes. In the background, Rob Sauber has added a whimsical touch: a small, spotted cat watching the festive scene in amazement. Other details that enhance this gifted artist’s presentation include the many bouquets and flower arrangements, the shiny wood floor and the marble-and-wood fireplace.
‘Rebecca’ marks the eighth and final issue in Rob Sauber’s romantic and delightful ‘Portraits of American Brides’ Plate Collection. Each will be crafted at Curator Collection in association with The Hamilton Collection, and each will capture the loveliness of an American bride in one of this nation’s most important fashion periods. BZ7MF. 1987 HC”
***Reverse side of plate is backstamped with the following legend in a lovely hue of pastel pink that is offset with an exquisitely decorative “bridal bouquet” embellishment: “Rebecca by Rob Sauber. Eighth (8th issue) in the ‘Portraits of American Brides’. A collection of eight porcelain plates featuring classic brides in period fashion. Curator Collection. Plate Number #0897A. 1986 Artaffects Ltd. Made in U.S.A.”
***Certificate of Authenticity (COA) reads: “Certificate of Authenticity. Curator Collection. Rebecca by Rob Sauber. This is to certify that ‘Rebecca’ by the gifted painter Rob Sauber is the eighth limited edition collector plate in the Curator Collection series, ‘Portraits of American Brides.’ The series is a tribute to the brides of this nation’s most important historic and fashion eras. ‘Rebecca’ is strictly limited to a 10 day period of firing. Your plate is number #0897A. Richard J. Habeeb, President. Rob Sauber, Artist. BZ8CA.”
***Background Information re Plate/Series: Billed as a “...stunning Curator Collection of eight brides from distinct historical-fashion eras in our history” and “THE most romantic collection...”, there were a total of eight (8) plates produced as part of this long-since discontinued 1986-1987 “Portraits of American Brides” limited edition, 10-day period of firing series.
