Item/Description: Vintage 1982 Knoxville, Tennessee World’s Fair (formally known as the “Knoxville International Energy Exposition”) souvenir commemorative 5" decorative elegant fancy wall plate (this is not one of the ordinary, typically lower-end items available for souvenir purchase at the fair but, rather, one of the rarer and higher-quality collectible souvenirs), ready for hanging.
***With a theme of “Energy Turns the World,” a 266 foot high hexagonal steel truss tower structure called the “Sunsphere” was constructed specifically for the event, and this magnificent architectural masterpiece is prominently featured on the face of the plate in all of its stylized glory, along with other reminiscent graphic imagery depicting the court of waving flags, the lake area, a large hot air balloon, various water craft and surrounding buildings. Even the spherical flame, which was the theme of this fair, is depicted, being cleverly utilized to serve as the letter “o” in the “World’s Fair” wording.
***In addition to these vivid and dynamic graphics, this elegant collectible plate also has gilded scalloped edges which even further enhance this already charming and aesthetically desirable plate.
