Item/Description: Vintage ca. 1950s-1970s Walt Disney’s “Donald Duck” character HUGE oversized figural head bust-style coin bank.
The coin slot on this delightfully charming still bank is located at the back of Donald’s head, with no opening on the underside for retrieving the coins (truly an “old school” style of forced savings). ;~) Coin banks such as this (without an opening on the underside) would have to be cracked open and broken into (in other words, shattered) in order to be able to “withdraw” the monies therefrom, which is why these types of banks are also amongst the rarer types of banks in the realm of piggy bank collectibles.
This particular heavy cast plaster/chalkware Donald Duck bank is uniquely atypical in that his paint colors are not the traditional colors that have come to be associated with Donald over the years. Donald usually wears a blue, white and gold sailor shirt, blue and black cap, and a red or black bow tie, with no trousers. Our Donald sports a green sailor hat and blue bow tie. Given these slight differences in coloration he may be a “homemade” Donald bank, perhaps cast from the same mold as was used for the vinyl/rubber/plastic 1971 Play Pal Donald Duck banks (except with those banks the coin slot is on top of his sailor hat while on this bank the slot is located on the back of his head - also, the Play Pal banks have openings and stoppers on the underside of the base, whereas this bank has NO OPENING).
Nevertheless, and regardless of the minor color differences, he is in every way identical in appearance to his world famous onscreen counterpart, THE ONE AND ONLY Donald Fauntleroy Duck!
Highly cross-collectible, this fabulous sculptural still bank will appeal as much to coin bank/still bank connoisseurs as to Disneyana devotees.
And given just how weighty this Donald Duck bank is, it would also make for a great singular bookend or a ginormous paperweight!

Excerpted Online Research Information About Donald Duck (attributed to http://www.disneymouselinks.com/donald-duck.aspx): “Donald Duck is one of the most popular of all the Disney Characters. He got his start on June 9, 1934 in a Silly Symphony cartoon titled 'The Wise Little Hen'. Audiences have always loved his fiery temper and silly antics.
Donald is a lovable character with a good heart who usually tries to do the right thing. He takes humiliation and keeps on going. He never backs down from a fight. Donald may be hard to understand most of the time but he always has a lot to say. He is easily calmed down by his beloved Daisy who can simply soothe his brow to make him happy. Donald is the character well known for his short fuse, his many fights, and his need to be as good as Mickey Mouse...”
Donald is not just a Disney icon. He is http://www.disneymouselinks.com/donald-duck.aspx)the only popular film and TV cartoon character to appear as a mascot for the sports team of a major American university, namely, the Oregon Ducks at the University of Oregon.”
