Title of Vintage “Los Alamos Project” Author-autographed/signed/inscribed Book: “Inside Box 1663”. Excellent reading on this particular subject, and a rare/scarce printing of the first edition of this title.
***“The story of two amazing years when the Jette family "disappeared" into a world of secrecy, isolation, and intense work that produced the world's first atomic bombs.”.
This book is partially a personal memoir/narrative about the author’s life in Los Alamos while her chemist/metallurgist husband worked there in the laboratories on the design and construction/development of the first atomic bomb to end WWII, as well as a history of the Manhattan Project itself. Her primary focus is on the social interaction and community life of a group of people working on a top secret project in an effort to help put an end to the second world war/World War II.
Book contains black & white photographs, Appendix, and Index.

Excerpt from “Introduction”: “Many stories have been written about Los Alamos: “Home of the Atom Bomb;” “First Bastion of the Nation’s Defense;” “Birthplace of the New Era;” etc. I, too, am going to write about Los Alamos. It was my home for more than five years.
The Smyth report states: “There was no Laboratory, no library, no shop, no adequate power plant. The sole means of approach was a winding mountain road. That the handicaps of the site were overcome to a considerable degree is a tribute to the unstinting efforts of the scientific and military personnel.” Science-wise I believe every word of the statement. Otherwise - well, that’s what I want to talk about.
This is my story only in so far as I happen to be the participating observer. It is the story of the lives of men and women who lived and worked in grim secrecy to hasten the end of the war. It is the story of those who shared the bitter post-war struggle to hold the establishment together and rebuild its prestige in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. We were all part of it whether we served in the Laboratories or in the homes.”
