Highly cross-collectible, this lovely weddings-themed plate will appeal as much to decorative plate collectors as it will to those looking for the perfect anniversary, engagement, bridal shower or wedding gift (it’s actually the perfect gift for any number of other occasions as well:  Birthdays; Mother’s Day; Valentine’s Day; to name but a few).

***Face side of plate decoratively depicts this wedding scene imagery:  A wholesomely pretty reddish-brown, curly-haired Contemporary 1980's-era modern American bride on her wedding day.  She is exquisitely and authentically attired in the period costume fashion style of her time.

The beaming bride is beautifully bedecked in a fairytale-style, snowy-white wedding dress with a slightly plunging sweetheart neckline. The sleeves are a very toned down, low key, much less puffy variation of the Victorian-era “leg of mutton” style of tight long sleeves. Her veil falls gracefully down the back side of her gown from the minimalist headpiece that rests amidst the bouncy curls of her lush hair. Like the leg o’ mutton sleeves of her dress, this fashionable bride’s matching white shoes are equally reminiscent of a bygone era, greatly resembling those worn in Victorian times or older. She is carrying a bouquet of pink roses.

She and her handsome, smiling groom are gayly bounding down the steps of the church at the conclusion of their wedding ceremony amidst a showering of rice being thrown by their well-wishing guests and bridal attendants, including their adorable flower girl and ring bearer boy, all of whom are attired in their finest formal wear.

Attention to historically accurate detail on this plate is absolutely impeccable!

***Reverse side of plate is backstamped with the following legend in a lovely hue of pastel pink that is offset with an exquisitely decorative “bridal bouquet” embellishment: “Sarah by Rob Sauber. Seventh (7th issue) in the ‘Portraits of American Brides’. A collection of eight porcelain plates featuring classic brides in period fashion. Curator Collection. Plate Number #1444A. 1986 Artaffects Ltd. Made in U.S.A.”

***Certificate of Authenticity (COA) reads: “Certificate of Authenticity. Curator Collection. Sarah by Rob Sauber. This is to certify that ‘Sarah’ by the gifted painter Rob Sauber is the seventh limited edition collector plate in the Curator Collection series, ‘Portraits of American Brides.’ The series is a tribute to the brides of this nation’s most important historic and fashion eras. ‘Sarah’ is strictly limited to a 10 day period of firing. Your plate is number #1444A. Richard J. Habeeb, President. Rob Sauber, Artist. BZ7CA.”

***Background Information re Plate/Series: Billed as a “...stunning Curator Collection of eight brides from distinct historical-fashion eras in our history” and “THE most romantic collection...”, there were a total of eight (8) plates produced as part of this long-since discontinued 1986-1987 “Portraits of American Brides” limited edition, 10-day period of firing series. With an original issue price of $29.50 per plate, each plate in the series displayed a different but equally stunning vibrantly colorful image of a bride (brides) on her wedding day, and showcased her exquisitely lovely period fashion wedding dress (dresses)/gown (gowns) bridal regalia dating to different time periods/eras throughout American history. Some of the plates depict only the bride, others also include the grooms &/or wedding guests &/or bridal party.

Excerpted Online Research Information about 1980s Brides & Bridal Fashions (Attributed to http://www.vintagegown.com/history/history_1980a.htm) “...Wedding fashion, however, remained soft and flowing at the start of the decade, perhaps keeping the natural curves of the female form sacred.

The late 1970s infusion of Victorian revival; kick started the decade with the softly romantic Eve of Milady gowns in diaphanous chiffon. Most of the early 1980s gowns were without structural support in the form of petticoats and skirts fell freely around the feet. Sheer fabrics facilitated the romantic styles, embellished with embroidered organza and three dimensional Venetian laces...

...Wedding gowns were not free from the bombastic styles of the girly glamour, and sleeves began to grow into massive leg o' muttons that were as huge as the bride's head. Eventually through the decade, the shoulder pad softened into a rounded, rather than squared silhouette, but was still dramatically enhanced, sometimes with an open keyhole back that closed with pearl strands and lengthy drop dangles.

Although she was to later publicly admit that perhaps her Emmanuel gown was a bit above the top, Princess Diana's choice for her 1981 marriage to Prince Charles was to portend the times. The sleeve on her ivory silk taffeta gown was as large as her head, a style that had first been memorable in the year 1896.”
