Highly cross-collectible, this lovely weddings-themed plate will appeal as much to decorative plate collectors as it will to those looking for the perfect anniversary, engagement, bridal shower or wedding gift (it’s actually the perfect gift for any number of other occasions as well: Birthdays; Mother’s Day; Valentine’s Day; to name but a few).

***Face side of plate decoratively depicts this wedding scene imagery: A lovely auburn-haired World War II (WWII)-era American bride on her wedding day. She is exquisitely and authentically attired in the period costume fashion style of her time, which is quite special given how so many brides of that era often had to forego opulent weddings and/or the wearing of traditional wedding dresses due to wartime limitations and rationing. Those lucky few brides who were able to wear traditional wedding gowns to celebrate their nuptials often borrowed them.

That being said, this fortunate young wartime bride is bedecked in a traditional wedding ensemble comprised of a beautiful albeit simple all white sweetheart neckline wedding gown with long tight sleeves and a gorgeous full flowing veil. Around her neck she is wearing an elegant double strand of pearls necklace.

She and her handsome smiling groom in his dapper military uniform are both kneeling on pillows at the church altar. Their hands are clasped as he joyously slides her wedding ring onto her dainty little finger.

They are flanked by a small bridal party in attendance - two bridesmaids, two groomsmen and a little boy ring bearer.

The two young ladies are wearing different-colored but identical style elaborately draping very formal gowns with matching hats. The outfit of the young woman who appears to be the maid or matron of honor is a stunning lavender purple and she is holding a single long-stemmed rose. The other attendant is attired in a breathtaking turquoise ensemble and she is holding a small bouquet of flowers.

Of the two gentlemen attendants, the one who appears to be the best man is also attired in military dress like the groom, and the other groomsman is elegantly decked out in a long black tuxedo jacket, dark blue-gray trousers & matching bow tie.

The adorable ring bearer is beaming with pride as he stands beside the groom while holding the pillow for the rings. He is also wearing a darling little formal suit.

A cheerful array of peach, orange, white, yellow & pastel pink flowers decoratively adorn the altar where the newly married couple is kneeling.

Attention to historically accurate detail on this plate is absolutely impeccable!

Plate Number #2695A. 1986 Artaffects Ltd. Made in U.S.A.”

***Background Information re Plate/Series: Billed as a “...stunning Curator Collection of eight brides from distinct historical-fashion eras in our history” and “THE most romantic collection...”, there were a total of eight (8) plates produced as part of this long-since discontinued 1986-1987 “Portraits of American Brides” limited edition, 10-day period of firing series. With an original issue price of $29.50 per plate, each plate in the series displayed a different but equally stunning vibrantly colorful image of a bride (brides) on her wedding day, and showcased her exquisitely lovely period fashion wedding dress (dresses)/gown (gowns) bridal regalia dating to different time periods/eras throughout American history. Some of the plates depict only the bride, others also include the grooms &/or wedding guests &/or bridal party.

Excerpted Online Research Information about 17th Century Brides & Bridal Fashions (Attributed to http://www.monroehistorical.org/articles/files/060108_weddingdress.html): “...As World War II broke out, brides found themselves marrying quickly before their husbands went overseas. Opulent weddings became less of a priority for many brides. While some women were able to wear the typical white dress, more ladies opted for a skirted suit. Rationing had limited cloth and borrowing a dress or suit was commonplace. Immediately following WW II, some brides made their wedding dress from parachutes their future husband’s used during the War. ..”
