(attributed to http://www.delawareinsurance.gov/): “COMPANY HISTORY: The Company was chartered in 1837 by a special Act of Congress of the United States of America as ‘The President and Directors of the Firemen’s Insurance Company of Washington and Georgetown’, a District of Columbia property and casualty insurance company. In July 1957, the Company adopted its present name, Firemen’s Insurance Company of Washington, D.C.
In 1982, Firemen’s became a member of the WRBC holding company system. In 1994,
FIC re-domesticated from the District of Columbia to the State of Maryland.
